You can go a long way to help Straighten Your Shots With These Golf Swing Tips and Drills if you practice this simple drill. This golf swing tip and drill is given to us by Robert Nelson, a teaching professional at the Blue Rock Springs Golf Course in Vallejo, CA. Nelson wrote the following article in the TimesHeraldOnline.com recently. If your hitting is not as straight as you want it to be, you can probably Straighten Your Shots With These Golf Swing Tips and Drills.
“Believe it or not, in spite of all my golfing and teaching experience, I sometimes forget that the arms are attached to the shoulders.”
“It must be true, because I don’t always hit the ball straight down the middle of the fairway.”
“If I, or you, were cognizant of that simple fact we could see that the arms and body should move together as one unit without either trying to outrace the other to the finish.”
“For example, the other day I hit a very good drive that had a beautiful ball flight, but I pushed it into the right rough.”
“That told me that I had an inside to outside swing path which is desirable, but my body was rotating open slightly faster than my arms which were lagging a little behind in the timing.”
“Now suppose that my arms were moving much faster than my body rotation, what would be the result? My hands would reach the impact area much sooner than my hip rotation would call for and as a result, I would release the clubface early, causing it to close.”
“A snap hook would be likely.”
“If you sometimes experience this out-of-sync problem, try this drill in your set-up. Place the ball on a tee as you usually do, even with your left heel.”
“Address the ball with your driver, but instead of swinging; slide the club up until the end of the rubber grip is touching your abdomen.”
“Now take some short back swings and follow throughs. This relationship between the club and your body should not change even at full speed, and you should try to visualize this picture before you even start your swing!”
On first reading, Nelson’s tips didn’t quite make sense to me. On reading it through a second time slowly, and carefully thinking about what he is saying, the light bulb came on! He actually gives a very thorough, and very concise, explanation of why you hit errant shots in many directions. It simply boils down to improper synchronization between your body turn and the arms and shoulders. He gave a very simple, yet effective drill to minimize or cure the problem. So if your shots are inconsistent in direction, practice how Nelson tells you to Straighten Your Shots With These Golf Swing Tips and Drills.
